Sonic Wall VPN Issue

Sonic Wall VPN Client: When connected to the VPN, normal internet access is impossible

For an unknown reason, the Sonicwall VPN client interferes with normal internet access when in use. This behaviour doesn't affect all networks. One laptop in particular would work at the client's office but not at their home when connecting to the headoffice. Both networks where similar in scale. Standard DSL internet connection and consumer level router. No domains or heavy firewalls at either sight. The solution after, much trial and error, was the following procedure:

  • Right click: "My Network Places" and select "Properties".
  • Right Click on your network connection and select "Properties".
  • Double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
  • Click the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the window.
  • In the "I.P. Settings" tab make sure "Automatic Metric" is checked.
  • Click "OK" in all three windows and reboot.
